San Gimignano

Once you've seen Volterra, it is also worth visiting the nearby historical town of San Gimignano, just half an hour away by car (approx. 30 km from Volterra)

San Gimignano became famous in Tuscany and throughout the world after the city was attacked by a plague approximately halfway through the 14th century and was subsequently abandoned by its inhabitants. To this day it has therefore remained unaltered in terms of its urban and architectural form.
Tower homes, narrow streets and buildings with varied uses have remained practically unchanged, becoming an important attraction for many tourists, who are able to appreciate this small yet precious 13th - 14th century Italian city, which has remained almost completely intact.
